Always need practice on this skill. How is the game board used? There are 2 ar pictures for the sort car and barn. Does it just happen to have 2 pics? Thanks for sharing the directions!
Hi! Feel free to use the sorts and the game board to meet your kidos' needs. I thought it better to not include directions with this game but here's a quick overview, I hope it helps!
The sorts included in this download are actually for two different word study groups. (I have four word study groups. These groups are different than my eight guided reading groups.) In my classroom, the students cut out the page of word study cards on Monday and use the cards all week long for a variety of activities. The students sort the cards for this sort under the headers. (The headers are the cards with the pictures.) These cards are also used to play the game during our literacy and intervention block times.
To play the game, the students place the word study cards in the center of the game board, pick a card, read the card, write the word on the writing sort sheet, roll the die, and advance. The die is one that I made by writing a "1" or "2" on each side of the die. (My kids will be the first to say that the die has more "1's" on it! Ha!) The game is introduced in small group first and the students play it independently after a couple of days of working with the sort.
I hope to be able to share a post on my word study and guided reading routines soon!
